Ben’s win Saints Quadrangular again!

🏏 Saints Quadrangular 2025 – The Mighty Bens Rise Again

The Mighty Bens have once again stamped their dominance on the Saints Quadrangular, regaining the shield after two epic battles—first against St. Peter’s in a nail-biting semifinal, and then against St. Joseph’s in a commanding final performance.

🔥 The Semifinal Thriller vs. St. Peter’s

Batting first, St. Benedict’s posted 155/6 in 20 overs, thanks to a solid 59 from Shehra Dematagoda and a fluent 41 from Angelo Rathnasinghe. St. Peter’s, determined and aggressive, kept the chase alive with momentum on their side.

But just when the tide seemed to tilt their way, up stepped Loresh De Silva with his golden arm. His brilliant hat-trick turned the game on its head, finishing with dream figures of 4/12, and the Bens scraped through in a heart-stopping finish to book their ticket to the final.

The game, however, wasn’t just remembered for the cricket. It also produced a shining moment of sportsmanship. A Peterite batsman was controversially run out after wandering out of his crease while the ball was still live—a dismissal reminiscent of Jonny Bairstow’s infamous exit in the Ashes. In a gesture that drew admiration from both sides, captain Milan De Silva intervened, offering the batsman a lifeline by withdrawing the appeal. For Milan and the Bens, winning was important, but playing in the spirit of the game came first.

🏆 The Grand Final vs. St. Joseph’s

With St. Anthony’s pulling out, St. Joseph’s advanced directly to the finals to face the in-form Bens. The stage was set, and the atmosphere electric.

Batting first, the Bens put up a strong 167 in their allotted 20 overs, with young Mariano Annadappa impressing as the top scorer with 49. In reply, the Josephians never found their rhythm, stifled by Angelo Rathnasinghe’s tight spell of 3/33 in 4 overs. The Joes folded for just 113, handing the Bens a resounding 54-run victory.

👑 Leadership That Lit the Way

At the heart of the Bens’ triumph was captain Milan De Silva. His courageous leadership, calm under pressure, and ability to rally his side in critical moments proved decisive. Whether it was lifting his players during the semifinal scare, upholding the spirit of cricket, or guiding his bowlers with precision in the final, Milan’s fingerprints were on every success. His brilliant stewardship showed the boys the way, and his leadership was as important to this victory as the runs and wickets themselves.

🎉 The Shield Returns

With bat, ball, and spirit, the Mighty Bens tamed the Joes and reclaimed their crown. The Saints Quadrangular shield returns once again to St. Benedict’s, sealing their place as the undisputed kings of this year’s tournament.
